Mompreneur Marketing | Professional & Personal Branding

Are you a mompreneur? I am too.

I was hoping to create a business out of creating content that drives mompreneur success, but I got sidetracked… But, I still have some insight that I’d like to share with moms everywhere.

This blog post is all about one of the most important marketing tactics: Branding.

A lot of mompreneurs on social media don’t actually brand themselves. This is because, typically, they are working for a larger company that already has its own branding. But how will your LuLaRoe shop, for example, stand out above the rest?

Below are a few good reasons you should consider developing your professional, personal brand. (Yes, they are one in the same.)

Trust

Having a brand builds trust among your customers and potential customers. It shows them that you are serious about your business and that it’s not going anywhere. 82% of small businesses fail in the first year due to lack of cash flow, according to Preferred CFO. This means, yes you guessed it, they don’t make enough money to make ends meet.

Spending time on your brand means that you’re investing time in your business and it pays off in the end.

It’s YOU-nique

Just because you’re creating a professional brand, doesn’t mean it has to be boring. It should be personal. Think about who you are and what your business means to you and your audience. Can you think of a few ways you could put it all together and create something unique?

For instance, if you sell makeup products and you feel that YOU are your brand; choose a photo of yourself with your “look” and make it into a drawing or a sketch.

Don’t forget that your “brand” could still be a great, professional looking photo of you, just make sure you use the same photo throughout your marketing efforts.

Brand Recognition

When your branding is consistent, people will recognize it faster and remember it easier which will improve your marketing efforts tenfold. When people find you via Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, on your website, etc., what you do should be apparent. Take a look at your online presence with fresh eyes, or ask a third party for help on this one.

Now that you understand why it’s important to create a personal brand, I suppose I should talk about what that actually means.

  1. Create a Your Brand
  2. Branded Website
  3. Branded Social Media Accounts*

*Accounts means business accounts when applicable. Links to your website should be everywhere possible: in the bio, in the About section, in your jobs section, etc.

Consistency

If you didn’t already pick up on this theme: CONSISTENCY IS KEY in branding. Keep the same look and feel everywhere. Your business card photo should match your profile photos, your cover photo should be the same on each social media account, and all of this should also be reflected on your website.

When you want to “freshen” everything up, go for it! Just make sure you are updating your entire online presence.

The Thing About Google Reviews

I have a client that does a great job asking people for reviews on Google for her business. In fact, I was just complimenting her on it the other day as we’ve been seeing some positive reviews come through on her Google Business page. The funny thing is… you really have to ask for good reviews these days, and it’s kind of like pulling teeth.

I find that people expect to be treated well and have a good experience when they go see a new chiropractor, a dry cleaner, or a restaurant that just opened. It’s only when the customer has a terrible experience that they get to writing a review online. Would you agree?

I have been there. Seriously. I have great experiences with businesses all the time, but I can’t count on my hands the amount of good reviews I’ve given them. However, I can distinctly remember the bad review I left a massage place a few months back because my experience was so infuriating. I couldn’t wait to get back into my car to get on Google and start telling my story to the world.

Moral of the story here is: don’t be afraid to ask people for good reviews! They are great to have online for new customers and people don’t mind leaving them; they just forget to do so once they’ve walked out the door.

Here are some things to try when doing so:

  • Give people an incentive to write a review
  • Make it easy by sending them a link to write the review
  • Give them a small gift on their way out that includes a note asking them for their feedback

Recommendations from peers work well, but so do good reviews! They also help with your website’s SEO, if you’re into that kind of thing 🙂

Keep up the good work, everyone!

Calling all Calls to Action!

Well, it’s the holidays and everyone has something to say! Have you noticed the amount of ad clutter vastly increased this past month?

So, how’s your promotion going? Could be better? You don’t say…

Here are a few suggestions to ponder:

  1. Make your call to action personable. You’re talking to P-E-O-P-L-E who would enjoy being spoken to in a friendly manner. Instead of using the CTA: Contact us or Call Now! what if you tried something like “Drop me a line” or just “Talk to us.”
  2. Give it to them straight. What are you offering? What is it and how it is useful to the customer? Describe that “it” quickly. Bullet points come in handy here. And then follow up with your awesome CTA button.
  3. Be Creative. Can they build or create it online? In that case, say “Build My ____” or “Create My ____.” Are they downloading money saving tips from you? You could say, “Show Me The Money!” or “Let’s Do It!”
  4. If you’re not having fun, the customer isn’t either. You may not be selling or offering something “fun” in your opinion, but there MUST be some fun way to think about it. There MUST be some angle you’re not seeing that would be successful.

If you absolutely cannot find anything fun or creative about what you’re offering, ask for help! There are a lot of creative minds out there ready and willing to be of service.

I’ll take a stab at it, if you’d like! Let’s give ’em something to talk about!

Thanks all! And, Happy Holidays!
